Occupational Information Network (O*NET)

The O*NET program is a leading source of occupational information. Central to the project is the O*NET database, containing information on hundreds of standardized and occupation-specific descriptors. The database is continually updated by surveying a broad range of workers from each occupation. O*NET is the replacement for the U.S. Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT).

Compare occupations by any of:
  • 2008 employment size,
  • projected 2008-2018 percent or numerical change in employment,
  • projected 2008-2018 job openings due to growth and replacement needs,
  • usual education and training requirements,
  • educational attainment distribution and
  • opportunities for self-employment

National Industry-Occupation Employment Matrix, 2008-2018

Visit our matrix web site to search by occupation to see the industries that had the largest numbers of workers in the occupation in 2008 or in which employment for that occupation is projected to increase the fastest or increase the most over the 2008-2018 period; or to search by industry to see which occupations in that industry had the most workers in 2008 and which will have the fastest growth or largest numerical increase over the 2008-2018 period.

State Occupational Employment Projections

Occupational employment projections are available for most States.
