(2) The fatality rate is calculated by using the equation (N/W) x 100,000, where N is the number of fatal occupational injuries and W is the number of workers. Employment data are taken from the Current Population Survey (CPS). Since CPS counts only workers age 16 and above, only fatalities to those age 16 and above are included in the rate calculation.
