Professional and business services accounted for 25 percent of job gains in 2014

In 2014, the professional and business services industry gained 732,000 jobs, an average monthly increase of 61,000 jobs. The gain was the largest among all major industries and represented 25 percent of total nonfarm employment growth.

In 2010, professional and business services made up more than half the gains in total nonfarm employment. Since 2010, the industry has accounted for at least a quarter of nonfarm employment growth.

Administrative and waste services added 402,000 jobs in 2014. Temporary help services accounted for about one-third of employment in administrative and waste services but 54 percent of the industry’s employment gains in 2014.
