Note: The June 2015 data are preliminary.

The only significant over-the-year unemployment rate increases occurred in North Dakota and South Dakota (+0.4 percentage point each). The remaining 24 states and the District of Columbia had rates that were not appreciably different from those of a year earlier.

The unemployment rate fell over the year in states shown below the diagonal line on the chart, where the June 2014 rate is higher than the June 2015 rate. The unemployment rate rose in the states above the diagonal line. The farther a state’s marker is from the diagonal line, the larger the change in the unemployment rate.

These data are from the Local Area Unemployment Statistics program. Data for the most recent month are preliminary and subject to revision. To learn more, see "Regional and State Employment and Unemployment — June 2015" (HTML) (PDF).
