Health care employment increased 407,000 over the year ended November 2016

Over the year ended November 2016, the health care industry added 407,000 jobs. Employment in ambulatory health care services (+254,000) and in hospitals (+133,000) both increased over the year.

Within ambulatory health care services, offices of physicians added 73,500 jobs and offices of other health practitioners added 56,100 over the year ended November 2016. Employment in medical and diagnostic laboratories (−1,100), other ambulatory health services (+1,000), nursing care facilities (−2,000), residential mental health facilities (+4,700), and other residential healthcare facilities (+3,800) changed little over the same period.
