Beyond the Numbers, a new BLS Publication

In May 2012, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) will introduce Beyond the Numbers, a new publication that will consolidate all BLS summary analytic writing into a cohesive conceptual and visual bundle. Beyond the Numbers will illuminate interesting, timely BLS data on discrete topics and will be oriented towards a general audience.

Beyond the Numbers will bring five previously independent publications under a single umbrella:

  • Issues in Labor Statistics
  • Regional Reports
  • Program Perspectives
  • Focus on Prices and Spending
  • OES Data Highlights

In order to help readers find related analyses more readily, and to transition readers from existing, independently branded publications into the new consolidated format, Beyond the Numbers issues will be grouped into topics or themes.

A mockup of the new publication can be found at https://www.bls.gov/bls/finalBTNprototype_print.pdf.

We’d like to know what you think of the new publication. Please send us your comments.
