Experimental JOLTS Firm Size Class Statistics

The JOLTS program is currently pursuing research on the number of job openings, hires, and separations by firm size. These estimates may help to better explain some of the internal dynamics of the labor market. These experimental series begin with December 2000, the starting point of the official JOLTS series. The original release in September 2017 included estimates through December 2016. The updated release in September 2018 included estimates through December 2017.

The methodology statement below details the methodology used to create the estimates.

The available files include tables of job openings, hires, and total separations, as well as three breakouts of total separations: quits (voluntary separations), layoffs and discharges (involuntary separations), and other separations. Both seasonally adjusted and not seasonally adjusted estimates are available.
