Texas: Price Movements of Top Nonenergy Exports and Other Highlights

Texas remained the top exporting state in 2024, with a total export trade dollar value of $455.0 billion, 2.0 percent higher than 2023. The export price index for computer and electronic product manufacturing, the largest nonenergy export industry from Texas, decreased in February. Export prices for transportation equipment manufacturing, chemical manufacturing, and machinery manufacturing advanced over the same period.

Top Six Texas Nonenergy Exports by Trade Dollar Value, 2024

  • The combined value of exports from Texas represented 22.0 percent of the 2024 U.S. total export trade dollar value.
  • Texas accounted for 22.0 percent of the total U.S. export trade dollar value for computer and electronic product manufacturing in 2024, ranking first among U.S. states in exports for the industry.
  • The top 6 nonenergy exports from Texas accounted for 80.4 percent of the total trade dollar value of Texas nonenergy exports in 2024.

U.S. Export Price Indexes: Computer and Electronic Product Manufacturing

  • Computer and electronic product manufacturing export prices edged down 0.1 percent in February.
  • The February decrease for computer and electronic product manufacturing export prices is the first monthly decline since the index decreased 0.6 percent in August 2024.
  • Export computer and electronic product manufacturing prices decreased 0.1 percent for the 12 months ended February 2025.

U.S. Export Price Indexes: Chemical Manufacturing

  • Export chemical manufacturing prices ticked up 0.1 percent in February.
  • A 0.8-percent increase in prices for resin, synthetic rubber, and artificial synthetic fibers manufacturing led the rise in prices for chemical manufacturing for February.
  • The price index for chemical manufacturing exports advanced 2.7 percent over the past year.

  • The price index for export transportation equipment manufacturing increased 0.2 percent in February.
  • Transportation equipment manufacturing export prices rose 2.6 percent for the 12 months ended February 2025.
  • A 2.9-percent rise in prices for aerospace product and parts manufacturing contributed to the 12-month advance in prices for transportation equipment manufacturing.

  • The price index for export machinery manufacturing increased 0.1 percent in February.
  • Export machinery manufacturing prices increased 1.8 percent from February 2024 to February 2025.
  • A 3.5-percent advance in prices for industrial machinery manufacturing contributed to the 12-month increase in prices for machinery manufacturing.
