Excluded are premium pay for overtime, vacations, and holidays; nonproduction bonuses; and tips. The mean is computed by totaling the pay of all workers and dividing by the number of workers, weighted by hours. 3 Mean weekly earnings are based on the straight-time weekly wages or salaries paid to employees. Median weekly earnings designate position in the earnings distribution at which one-half of the earnings are paid the same as or more than the rate shown and half are paid the same as or less than the rate shown.
