Q. When is the next SOC revision?
A. Revising the SOC is a multi-year process -- the 2018 SOC revision took over 5 years. For the 2028 revision, the SOC Policy Committee began planning in late 2023. The SOC Policy Committee expects to seek out public input through the first Federal Register notice in 2024 and publication of the final 2028 SOC structure in spring 2027. The SOCPC encourages those interested in providing input to the next revision or would like more background on the SOC to carefully review information provided in "Input Requested by the SOC Policy Committee," which is a section of "Revising the Standard Occupational Classification," a larger document that more fully describes the history and structure of the SOC.
In addition, those wishing to provide input should do so during the Federal Register comment period. To sign up to receive email notifications when the SOC webpages are updated, including the publication of Federal Register notices related to SOC revisions, enter your email address on the Subscriptions page under the “About SOC” tab.
