Average weekly wages among largest counties, third quarter 2014 to third quarter 2015

The U.S. average weekly wage increased 2.6 percent from the third quarter of 2014 to the third quarter of 2015, growing to $974. Among counties with 75,000 or more jobs in 2014, Rockland, New York, had the largest percentage increase in average weekly wages (24.9 percent) over the year. The largest contribution to the county's increase was a gain of $3,170, or 220.4 percent, in average weekly wages in manufacturing.

Midland, Texas, experienced the largest percentage decrease in average weekly wages among the largest counties, with a loss of 6.7 percent over the year. The largest contribution to the county's decrease was a loss of $163, or 8.1 percent, in average weekly wages in natural resources and mining. Other counties with an over-the-year decrease in average weekly wages greater than 2.0 percent were Ector County, Texas; Lafayette Parish, Louisiana; and Stark County, Ohio.
