Nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses for flight attendants in 2019

There were 4,980 cases of nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses among flight attendants that resulted in days away from work in 2019. These injuries and illnesses occurred at a rate of 517.0 per 10,000 full-time workers; the rate was 86.9 across all private industry.

Injuries and illnesses to flight attendants that resulted from overexertion and bodily reaction occurred at a rate of 185.8 in 2019, and for transportation incidents (which include aircraft incidents, pedestrian vehicular incidents, and roadway incidents involving a motorized land vehicle) the rate was 113.3.

In 2019, overexertion and bodily reaction represented 35.9 percent of nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses among flight attendants that resulted in days away from work. Transportation incidents represented 21.9 percent of these cases in 2019, while contact with objects and equipment made up 18.3 percent.
