Sioux Falls, South Dakota, has lowest metro area unemployment rate in August 2016, at 2.1 percent

In August 2016, a total of 190 areas had jobless rates below the U.S. rate of 5.0 percent, 182 areas had rates above it, and 15 areas had rates equal to that of the nation. In August, the lowest unemployment rate was in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, 2.1 percent. Yuma, Arizona, and El Centro, California, had the highest unemployment rates, 24.6 percent and 23.8 percent, respectively.

Unemployment rates were lower in August 2016 than a year earlier in 242 of the 387 metropolitan areas, higher in 123 areas, and unchanged in 22 areas.
