Midland, Texas, had largest 12-month percentage employment increase, January 2019

In January 2019, 53 metropolitan areas had over-the-year increases in nonfarm payroll employment and 336 were essentially unchanged. The largest over-the-year percentage gain in employment occurred in Midland, Texas, where employment increased by 9.2 percent as the number of jobs increased by 9,400. Reno, Nevada recorded an increase of 7.2 percent as a result of an employment increase of 16,600.

The largest over-the-year employment increases in terms of the number of jobs occurred in New York-Newark-Jersey City, New York-New Jersey-Pennsylvania (+141,000 or 1.5 percent), followed by Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington (+100,100 or 2.8 percent) and Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land, Texas (+83,800 or 2.8 percent).
