Casino hotels had largest employment loss per establishment in 2020

With the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, annual average employment fell by about 1 worker per establishment over the year across all private industries in the United States. Casino hotels had the largest decrease among all private industries, losing an average of 263 jobs per establishment. That was 3.5 times greater than the industry with next largest job loss, amusement and theme parks. That industry lost 75 jobs per establishment on average in 2020.

Some industries gained jobs in 2020. Warehouse clubs and supercenters had the largest increase among private industries. Employment at the average warehouse clubs and supercenters establishment increased by 19 jobs in 2020. Second highest was general warehousing and storage, which added 16 jobs per establishment during 2020.
