Hawaii had largest job gains rate in second quarter of 2021

From March 2021 to June 2021, gross job gains from opening and expanding private-sector establishments were 8.1 million, a decrease of 13,000 jobs from the previous quarter. Gross job losses from closing and contracting private-sector establishments were 7.2 million, an increase of 779,000 jobs from March 2021 to June 2021. The difference between the number of gross job gains and the number of gross job losses yielded a net employment gain of 893,000 jobs in the private sector during the second quarter of 2021.

Gross job gains exceeded gross job losses in 39 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico in the second quarter of 2021. Hawaii had the largest job gains rate over this period, at 10.7 percent. Alaska had the highest job losses rate over this period, of 9.2 percent.
