JOLTS Home

The Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) program of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) produces monthly and annual estimates of job openings, hires, and separations for the nation. The JOLTS program also produces monthly state estimates for all 50 states and the District of Columbia at the total nonfarm industry level.

The number of job openings was little changed at 7.7 million in January. Hires held at 5.4 million, and total separations changed little at 5.3 million. Annual levels and rates for 2024 are now available.

Job openings rates increased in 2 states in November 2024

Job openings rates increased in 2 states, decreased in 2 states, and were little changed in 46 states and the District of Columbia in November 2024. The national job openings rate (4.8 percent) was little changed over the month. The increases in job openings rates occurred in North Carolina (+0.9 percentage point) and California (+0.5 percentage point). The decreases occurred in Colorado (−2.7 percentage points) and Maine (−1.0 percentage point). read more »
