In March, unemployment rates were little changed in all 50 states
and the District of Columbia. Nonfarm payroll employment increased in
3 states and was essentially unchanged in 47 states and the District.

Jobless rates were higher in March than a year earlier in 174 of the 387 metropolitan areas,
lower in 172, and unchanged in 41. Nonfarm payroll employment increased over the year in 8
areas, decreased in 8, and was essentially unchanged in 371.
