Educational and health services employment most extensive in Northeast |

| In 1997, the Northeast region had
the highest proportions of its private-sector workers in the educational services and the
health services industries.
Of all private nonagricultural wage and salary workers in the Northeast, 3.6 percent were employed in educational services in 1997. The next highest figure2.6 percentwas for the Midwest. In the South the proportion of workers in educational services was 2.2 percent and in the West it was slightly lower, at 2.0 percent. The proportions of private workers in health services followed the same regional pattern. The largest share11.8 percentwas found in the Northeast and the next highest in the Midwest10.5 percent. Among workers in the South, 9.7 percent were in health services and in the West, the percentage was 8.5 percent. These data on employment are a product of the Current Population Survey.
