Hires 5.8 million and total separations 5.1 million in October 2020

In October 2020, the number of hires was approximately 5.8 million. During the same period, total separations was approximately 5.1 million. Trade, transportation, and utilities had the largest number of hires at approximately 1.2 million. This industry also had the largest amount of separations at approximately 1.1 million.

In October 2020, professional and business services and leisure and hospitality also had over one million hires for the month.

In October 2020, total separations (465,000) were greater than hires (318,000) in government. Total separations were also greater than hires in mining and logging. Separations and hires were about the same in wholesale trade.
