Unemployment rates were higher in June than a year earlier in 388 of the 389 metropolitan areas and lower in 1 area. The national unemployment rate in June was 11.2 percent, not seasonally adjusted, up from 3.8 percent a year earlier. Atlantic City-Hammonton, New Jersey, had the highest unemployment rate in June, 34.3 percent. Logan, Utah-Idaho, and Idaho Falls, Idaho, had the lowest unemployment rates, 3.5 percent and 3.6 percent, respectively. A total of 267 areas had June jobless rates below the U.S. rate of 11.2 percent, 116 areas had rates above it, and 6 areas had rates equal to that of the nation.
