37.9 percent of advanced degree holders teleworked in October 2023

About one in five employed people age 25 and over (21.7 percent) teleworked at least some of the time in October 2023, with 10.5 percent teleworking some hours and 11.2 percent teleworking all of their work hours.

Workers with a higher level of educational attainment were more likely to telework in October 2023. Among employed people age 25 and older, 37.9 percent of advanced degree holders and 34.6 percent of bachelor's degree holders teleworked at least some of the time in October. The data show that 16.8 percent of those with an advanced degree teleworked all of their work hours, compared with just 1.4 percent of those with less than a high school diploma, and 4.5 percent of high school graduates with no college. Advanced degrees include master's, doctoral, and professional degrees such as those in law or medicine.

Among all workers age 25 and older in October 2023, 11.0 percent had teleworked in February 2020, compared with the 21.7 percent who teleworked in October 2023. For advanced degree holders, 19.1 percent had teleworked in February 2020 compared with 37.9 percent in October 2023. For those with less than a high school diploma, 2.2 percent had teleworked in February 2020, little different from the percentage who teleworked in October 2023 (2.3 percent).
