Producer prices up 0.9 percent from January 2023 to January 2024

The Producer Price Index for final demand rose 0.9 percent from January 2023 to January 2024, as a 1.7-percent decrease in producer prices for goods and a 1.0-percent decrease in producer prices for construction were more than offset by a 2.2-percent increase in producer prices for services. The 1.0-percent decrease in producer prices for construction was the first over-the-year decline in the construction index since 12-month change data began in November 2010.

Within goods, foods prices declined 3.6 percent and energy prices declined 9.8 percent over the year ended January 2024. Producer prices for goods less food and energy rose 1.6 percent.
From January 2023 to January 2024, prices decreased for trade services (−0.2 percent) and for transportation and warehousing services (−4.3 percent). Producer prices for services less trade, transportation, and warehousing rose 4.1 percent.
