July unemployment rates: adult men, 7.0 percent; adult women, 6.5 percent; teens, 23.7 percent

In July, the unemployment rate (for all persons 16 years and over) edged down to 7.4 percent. Over the year, this measure was down by 0.8 percentage point; the rate in July 2012 was 8.2 percent.

The unemployment rate for adult women (women 20 years and over) declined to 6.5 percent. In July 2012, the unemployment rate for adult women was 7.7 percent. 

The rates for adult men (men 20 years and over) and teenagers (16 to 19 years, both sexes) were 7.0 percent and 23.7 percent, respectively, and showed little or no change in July 2013. A year earlier, the rates were 7.5 percent and 23.9 percent.
