U.S. import prices fell 3.0 percent from August 2022 to August 2023

Prices for U.S. imports advanced 0.5 percent in August 2023, the largest monthly increase since May 2022. Despite the August increase, U.S. import prices fell 3.0 percent over the past year.

Import prices for industrial supplies and materials dropped 12.2 percent over the year. Automotive vehicles, parts and engines import prices rose 1.7 percent while prices for consumer goods, excluding automotives, dropped 0.3 percent over the year.
