Top searches on BLS website in 2011

The most-used search term on the BLS website in 2011 was teacher (which accounted for 0.9 percent of all searches). The most-often-used search terms of 2011 relate to occupational information; most of them are occupational titles.
Other occupational titles among the most-used search terms include lawyer, nurse, and doctor, followed by physical therapist, chef, and accountant. These links lead to articles in the Occupational Outlook Handbook, a nationally recognized source of career information published by BLS. Additional career information may be found in the Occupational Outlook Quarterly.
Among the most-used search terms, pediatricians—a type of doctor—had median annual wages of $155,370. Registered nurses and police officers, both occupations found among the most-used search terms, had median annual wages of $64,690 and $53,540, respectively.
The most-used search teams not related to occupational information were "unemployment rate" and "unemployment" (indicating an interest in statistics on unemployment), and "CPI" (indicating an interest in inflation and prices).
Data on occupational wages are from the Occupational Employment Statistics program. Employment Projections for 2010-20 will be released on February 1, 2012. The 2012-13 Occupational Outlook Handbook is scheduled to be released in late March 2012.
