Unemployed people per job opening
  • Combining the unemployment level and job openings level produces a ratio between the two series that can serve as an indication of how the number of unemployed people per job opening changes over time. The number of unemployed people per job opening was 1.0 in July.

What is the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey?

The Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) produces monthly estimates of job openings, hires, quits, layoffs and discharges, and other separations.

JOLTS estimates can be used to gauge labor demand, monitor the dynamics between hires and separations, and measure labor turnover.
