Error in Producer Price Index Petroleum Industry Indexes, 2015–18

With the release of February 2019 Producer Price Indexes (PPI) data on March 13, 2019, data for June 2015 through September 2018 for three PPI petroleum industry indexes were updated to correct an error.

The affected series are as follows:

Data for these series for June 2015 through September 2018 have been updated in the BLS database and are noted with a “C” footnote.

Data for these series for October 2018 through January 2019 will be updated and finalized using the normal PPI 4-month revision process.

In addition, PPI variance information for 2016 and 2017 for petroleum refineries has been corrected. Variance information for petroleum and coal products manufacturing and for petroleum and coal products mfg. will not be recalculated and has been removed from the variance tables.
