County Employment and Wages in Utah — Fourth Quarter 2025

Employment rose in 3 of the 5 largest counties in Utah from December 2024 to December 2025, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Acting Regional Commissioner Jerome Watters noted that Washington County (+2.3 percent) had the largest over-the-year increase in employment. (See chart 1 and table 1.)

Salt Lake County (821,000) had the highest employment level in Utah in December 2025. Together, the five largest counties accounted for 84.3 percent of total covered employment within the state. Nationwide, the 372 largest counties comprise 73.4 percent of total covered employment in the United States. (Large counties and county equivalents are those with annual average employment levels of 75,000 or more in 2024.)

Large county average weekly wages in the fourth quarter 2025

Average weekly wage gains in 2 of 4 large counties in Utah with published data were above the national average of 4.2 percent. (See chart 2.) Salt Lake had the largest gain (+4.5 percent). Wages increased for Weber County (+4.4 percent), Washington County (+4.0 percent), and Utah County (+1.7 percent).

Salt Lake ($1,607) had a weekly wage above the national average of $1,569. Average weekly wages among the other four large counties ranged from $1,282 in Utah County to $1,016 in Washington.

Smaller county average weekly wages in the fourth quarter of 2025

Employment and wage levels (but not over-the-year changes) are also available for the 24 smaller counties in Utah, defined as having employment below 75,000 in 2024. (See table 2.) Wage levels in all smaller counties were below the national average. Garfield reported the highest average weekly wage ($1,549). Piute reported the lowest average weekly wage ($769) in the state.

Among all 29 Utah counties, 6 reported average weekly wages of $974 or less, 9 had wages from $975 to $1,099, 6 had wages from $1,100 to $1,224, and 8 had average weekly wages of $1,255 or higher. (See map 1 and table 2.)
