County Employment and Wages in Florida — Third Quarter 2025

Employment fell in 16 of the 27 largest counties in Florida from September 2024 to September 2025, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Regional Commissioner Victoria G. Lee noted that Pinellas County had the largest over-the-year decrease in employment, with a loss of 1.8 percent. (See chart 1 and table 1.)

Among the 27 largest counties in Florida, employment was highest in Miami-Dade (1,261,700) in September 2025. Together, the 27 largest counties accounted for 87.7 percent of total covered employment within the state. Nationwide, the 372 largest counties comprise 73.2 percent of total covered employment in the United States. (Large counties and county equivalents are those with annual average employment levels of 75,000 or more in 2024.)

Large county average weekly wages in the third quarter 2025

All 27 large Florida counties reported average weekly wage gains over the year. (See chart 2.) Seminole had the largest gain (+6.4 percent). Over-the-year wage gains among Florida’s other 26 large counties ranged from 5.6 percent to 2.4 percent.

Weekly wages in 2 of the 27 largest counties in Florida were above the national average of $1,459: Miami-Dade ($1,468) and Palm Beach ($1,465). Average weekly wages among Florida’s 25 other large counties ranged from $1,435 in Hillsborough to $1,023 in Marion.

Smaller county average weekly wages in the third quarter of 2025

Employment and wage levels (but not over-the-year changes) are also available for the 40 small counties in Florida, defined as having employment below 75,000 in 2024. (See table 2.) Wage levels in all 40 smaller counties were below the national average. Glades reported the highest average weekly wage ($1,189). Holmes reported the lowest average weekly wage ($814) in the state.

Among all 67 Florida counties, 10 reported average weekly wages of less than $900, 22 registered wages from $900 to $1,024, 15 had wages from $1,025 to $1,149, 11 had wages from $1,150 to $1,274, and 9 had average weekly wages of $1,275 or higher. (See map 1 and table 2.)
