Visiting the Bureau of Labor Statistics at the Suitland Federal Center

When you arrive at the Suitland Federal Center, you must present unexpired photo identification and receive a visitor’s badge. If you bring a laptop, it must be registered with building security in the lobby. Cameras and weapons are not permitted in the building. All BLS visitors must be escorted by a BLS employee throughout the building.

Arriving by Metrorail, Metrobus, taxi, rideshare, or personal vehicle

If you are coming to the Suitland Federal Center by Metrorail, Metrobus, taxi, or rideshare, enter at Gate 7, which is across the street from the Metro garage. Proceed inside the Suitland Federal Center visitor entrance, the nearest entrance to Gate 7. Visitors must obtain a visitor pass from the guard. To do so, you will need unexpired photo identification and the name and telephone number of the contact person at BLS.

If you are driving to the Suitland Federal Center and need to park your vehicle, arrive by Silver Hill Road and turn at the Swann Road traffic light to enter at Gate 5.

Metrorail

• Take the Metro Green Line toward Branch Avenue and exit at the Suitland Station. Transfers to the Green Line are available at L’Enfant Plaza (Blue, Orange, Silver, and Yellow Lines) and Gallery Place (Red and Yellow Lines).
• Go up the escalator or stairs to the mezzanine level (the level where the farecard machines are located).
• Proceed past the farecard machines and walk to the end of the hall. (Do not exit at the mezzanine level because this level is for Metro buses only.) On the left, you will see an up escalator and stairs and a sign that says, “To Parking Structure, To Suitland Federal Center Shuttle.” Take the escalator or stairs up.
• At the top of the escalator or stairs, you will reach a covered bridge. Continue across the covered bridge. When the bridge ends, continue walking under the covered walkway until you reach the parking garage.
• When you get to the parking garage, turn left and walk along the side of the garage. (You may see people taking a shortcut through the garage. For your safety, we do not recommend going through the garage.)
• Continue walking, with the parking garage on your right side, until you reach the end of the garage. The walkway will make a sharp right. Take the right and continue along the covered walkway. As you walk, the garage wall will be on your right side. At this point, you will be able to see the Suitland Federal Center.
• Continue under the covered walkway until you reach the street. The access point to the Suitland Federal Center is Gate 7, across the street from the Metro garage. Gate 7 will be directly in front of you. Continue following the covered walkway across the street and up to the gate.
• Proceed inside the Suitland Federal Center visitor entrance.

Metrobus

• Eight Metrobus lines serve the Suitland Federal Center.
• Take the P60 (south), P61 (south), P66 (west), P87 (east), P90 (east), P93 (east), P94 (east), or P96 (north) toward Suitland.
• Disembark at the “Suitland Rdwy+Suitland Federal Ctr” stop. To your right will be the access point, Gate 7.
• Proceed inside the Suitland Federal Center visitor entrance.

Personal vehicle

• If you are driving to the Suitland Federal Center, arrive by Silver Hill Road and turn at the Swann Road traffic light to enter through Gate 5.
• Enter Gate 5 in the right lane and stop for the guard. The guard will direct you to park at the guard station, register your vehicle, and obtain a visitor’s parking permit.
• At the guard station, get out of your vehicle and walk to the guard station. You must present unexpired photo identification and have your vehicle's license plate number with you.
• The guard will direct you to the nearby vehicle screening station and then to the visitor’s parking area.
• At a busy time, processing could take 20 minutes.

Alternative parking: For a fee, you can park in the Suitland Metro public garage located on Metro/Navy Day Drive. Enter the Suitland Federal Center at the visitor entrance near Gate 7.

From Northern Virginia

• Take the Outer Loop of the Capital Beltway toward Alexandria.
• Proceed across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge and continue to Exit 4B for Maryland 414 East/ Saint Barnabas Road toward Marlow Heights.
• Take Saint Barnabas Road to a right turn onto Silver Hill Road.
• Follow Silver Hill Road to a left into the Suitland Federal Center at Gate 5 at the traffic light at Swann Road.

From Bethesda/Silver Spring/Wheaton

• Take the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway toward Joint Base Andrews/Richmond (will be either Interstate 495 or 95 depending on where you get on the Beltway).
• Take Exit 11B, Pennsylvania Avenue—Washington.
• Take Pennsylvania Avenue to a left on Silver Hill Road.
• Follow Silver Hill Road to a right into the Suitland Federal Center at Gate 5 at the traffic light at Swann Road.

From Washington, D.C.

• Take Pennsylvania Avenue to a right onto Silver Hill Road, about 2 miles from the Maryland-DC line.
• Follow Silver Hill Road to a right into the Suitland Federal Center at Gate 5 at the traffic light at Swann Road.

From Baltimore

• Take the Baltimore–Washington Parkway (MD 295) or Interstate 95 toward Washington.
• Take the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway, Interstate 95 South—Richmond.
• Continue toward Joint Base Andrews and get off at Exit 11B, Pennsylvania Avenue—Washington.
• Take Pennsylvania Avenue to a left on Silver Hill Road.
• Follow Silver Hill Road to a right into the Suitland Federal Center at Gate 5 at the traffic light at Swann Road.
