Douglas Williams became the Associate Commissioner for the Office of Survey Methods Research in 2025. He leads the management of three distinct research centers to support the needs for BLS production programs and to evaluate and support the quality of BLS data. His office includes the Behavioral Science Research Center, the Data Science Research Center, and the Mathematical Statistics Research Center. His office contributes novel research examining questionnaire design, usability, applications of data science, statistical inference, and data privacy.
From 2020 to 2023, Mr. Williams served as the Director of the Behavioral Science Research Center. He later served as the Senior Research Survey Methodologist from 2022 to 2025. Mr. Williams joined the Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2020 and has over 20 years of experience conducting methodological research. Mr. Williams holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of California at San Diego and a Master of Science degree in Survey Methodology from the University of Maryland at College Park.
