Introduction

The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) American Time Use Survey (ATUS) program conducts surveys that measure the amount of time people spend doing various activities, such as work, childcare, housework, watching television, volunteering, and socializing.

Objective

After completing this activity, you will be able to create, read, and interpret pie charts. You will also be able to identify the BLS ATUS program as an excellent resource for time use data.

Activity

In this activity, you will learn about the American Time Use Survey (ATUS). You will learn how to interpret a pie chart and will be quizzed on your ability to interpret them. You’ll also create a pie chart displaying how you spend your time. Follow the instructions on the following pages to complete the activity.
