Mass Layoff Statistics: Overview

The Mass Layoff Statistics (MLS) program collects reports on mass layoff actions that result in workers being separated from their jobs.

NOTE: The Mass Layoff Statistics program was eliminated as part of the 2013 across-the-board spending cuts required by the Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Act. For more information regarding these cuts, please see: https://www.bls.gov/bls/sequester_info.htm.The material in the Handbook reflects the methodology in place before these cuts.
