Establishments known as Web search portals often provide additional Internet services, such as e-mail, connections to other web sites, auctions, news, and other limited content, and serve as a home base for Internet users.

Given the increasing prevalence of internet as a generic method of delivery for publishing and broadcasting, this industry is being updated to distinguish between different types of publishers, broadcasting/media content providers, and web search portals.
