Your participation is critical to the quality and accuracy of our statistics. The survey is the only comprehensive measure of work-related injuries and illnesses in American workplaces. As such, it is relied on by employers, employees, public policy makers and researchers in their efforts to protect the American workforce and maintain its high level of productivity. The survey uses a scientific sampling approach to select employers to represent all industries and all sizes of establishments. This sampling approach relies on substantial cooperation from those establishments that are selected to participate to maintain the quality and accuracy of this statistical series. Finally, it is important to understand that information that can be used to identify your establishment or firm will never be released and is used in summary form for statistical purposes only by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The results of the survey are available to all users both in print and on the BLS web site at https://www.bls.gov/iif/. We have made available a couple of tools that can help you as an employer to compare your incidence rates to the survey results for your industry. By going to our incident rate calculator you can calculate your own rates https://data.bls.gov/iirc/ and, at the same time, get the national or State rates with which to compare your rates. Profiles of those cases that involve days away from work are also available by the nature of the injury or illness, the source of the injury or illness, the part of body affected, and the event that caused the injury or illness. In addition, these data are also available for certain demographic characteristics including occupation, industry, age, gender, and work experience.
