Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey: Information for Survey Participants

The Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) is a monthly indicator of the need for workers in the US economy. Your voluntary participation is highly valued and will help provide businesses and the American public with information critical in planning for future economic growth and success. JOLTS compiles job openings and turnover (hires and separations) data from thousands of firms like yours. Without the generous cooperation of the people who participate in our surveys, we could not fulfill our mission to provide vital information about our economy. We thank you.

Ways to report your data

Web — data submission online

JOLTSLite

You use your nine-digit report number(s) to access the reporting site and enter data directly into the JOLTS system. You can also update your respondent information, download forms, and access data definitions. Contact the JOLTS help desk for assistance.

You register for this reporting option and establish a permanent account number and password. You then log on when you receive monthly reminders, and enter all your data onto a single spreadsheet form. JOLTSPro provides the most comprehensive reporting features. Please contact the JOLTS Help Desk for more information or to register.

Telephone — data collection interview by phone

You provide data to JOLTS representatives during a scheduled monthly call with a BLS employee.

Reminders and data verification contact

The JOLTS team is mindful of your limited time and grateful for your voluntary contribution. It is important that we receive data within the first two weeks of the month so that we can use the data in the next JOLTS release. For this reason, we send you email requests to submit your data electronically or reminders of your upcoming data collection calls. Once you report, you will not receive a reminder until the next month’s data are due. However, you may receive up to 4 reminders if we have not received your data. Additionally, JOLTS screens all reported data, so you may receive follow-up calls or emails with questions about data you have submitted.

Note: The JOLTSPro option to provide a reason for irregular data often helps respondents to minimize follow-up calls and emails.
