Factsheets on Work Stoppages in the United States

The Major Work Stoppages program publishes monthly and annual data on laborÔÇÉmanagement disputes involving 1,000 or more workers and lasting one full shift or longer.

For more information regarding the concepts, collection and calculation methodology, as well as the program history see the Work Stoppages in the Handbook of Methods.

These factsheets summarize work stoppages (strikes and lockouts) in the United States as well as by industry group. Notable work stoppages are based on number of workers involved, duration, and cumulative days of idleness. These factsheets will be updated annually based on final data. The current year data are considered preliminary until the corresponding year’s news release is published. Summaries by industry are based on the 2-digit aggregate sector.
