Errors in Federal government hires, total separations, and layoffs and discharges estimates, January 2011 to June 2018
BLS identified errors in the federal government hires, layoffs and discharges, and total separations estimates from January 2011 to June 2018 for the series listed in table 1 on this page. On June 12, 2018, BLS suppressed these data from the database. The estimates were corrected in the database on September 11, 2018.
Due to the JOLTS alignment methodology which preserves the ratio of job openings to hires, job openings estimates were affected by the corrections to the hires series. These data had not been suppressed previously. Further, total nonfarm data were recalculated and therefore subject to correction. Series impacted by the corrections which had not been suppressed previously are listed in table 2.
In addition to the database, these errors were also published in the Job Openings and Labor Turnover news releases and tables. These products will not be reissued. Users should go to the database for the corrected data. A list of affected products is in table 3.
