Consumer Price Index Series and Average Price Series Corrected on August 18, 2011

The CPI news release published on Thursday, August 18, 2011, contains minor corrections in Table 7 to selected values for selected values for April, May and June for Chained CPI-U data. On the afternoon of August 18, 2011, BLS reissued the April, May and June CPI news releases (originally published on May 13, 2011, June 15, 2011, and July 15, 2011 respectively) to correct the same values in Table 7 for April, May and June. No other data in the news releases are affected.

The corrections result from errors found in the April, May and June 2011 prices for Pittsburgh and Northeast Size B/C Utility (piped) gas service and the May and June 2011 St. Louis Utility (piped) gas service prices. The indexes and associated average prices were corrected in the BLS online database concurrent with the release of July CPI data on the morning of August 18. These indexes have been corrected in the April, May and June CPI Detailed Reports, posted on August 18, 2011.
