2028 Geographic Revision Notice

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) program will begin updating its sample of geographic areas with the publication of January 2028 indexes in February 2028. This new geographic sample will reflect shifts in the U.S. population as reported by the 2020 decennial census. The new sample will introduce 14 new nonself-representing primary sampling units (PSUs) in three waves. Six PSUs will be introduced in the first wave in 2028, with the remaining eight PSUs expected to be introduced between 2029 and 2030.
