This page shows the data predominant collection modes used in the Consumer Price Index over the last 13 months for both the Commodities and Services survey and the Housing survey. Although most of the prices used to compute the CPI are collected by these modes, in some cases data are supplemented or collected from other sources.
Additional information on collection procedures is available in the Data Sources chapter of the Consumer Price Index program section of the BLS Handbook of Methods.
BLS began calculating and publishing the collection modes data series in 2019. Collection modes data from January 2019 to present (XLSX).
