Physicists—-Conduct research into phases of physical phenomena, develop theories and laws on basis of observation and experiments, and devise methods to apply laws and theories of physics to industry, medicine, and other fields. May specialize in one or more of the following branches of physics: acoustics, astrophysics, atomic, electronic, molecular, cryogenics, fluids, electricity, magnetisms, light and optics, nuclear, plasma, solid earth, solid state, and thermodynamics. Astronomers—-Observe and interpret celestial phenomena and relate research to basic scientific knowledge or to practical problems such as navigation. May specialize in either observational or theoretical aspects of stellar astronomy, stellar astrophysics, interstellar medium, galactic structure, extragalactic astronomy, or cosmology.
