Railroad Transportation Occupations
- G825 RAILROAD BRAKE, SIGNAL, AND SWITCH OPERATORS
- Workers who switch railroad cars within yard of railroad industrial plant or other location to load, unload, makeup or breakup trains. May operate from control or signal tower. Inspect train equipment such as couplings and airhoses and handbrakes to insure they function properly. Make minor repairs when necessary. Report to conductor if major repairs are necessary. Set warning signals in front and rear of train in emergency. Climb ladder to top of cars and turn brake wheel to set car brakes on freight train or ride stop car when it is shunted. On passenger train, control switches that regulate air conditioning, heating and lighting.
