The Current Employment Statistics (CES) survey is a monthly panel survey of 380,000 business establislunents conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The CES provides monthly estimates of total employment, production or nonsupervisory worker employment. and hours and earnings. These figures are regarded as key economic indicators of the health of the economy. The figures are used by policy-makers such as the Council of Economic Advisors and the Federal Reserve Board as well as businesses throughout the private sector in evaluating plant location decisions and in detennining wage rates.
