Using Iterative Pretesting and Response Analysis Surveys to Develop a Questionnaire for a Multi‐Mode Survey

Abstract

Five iterative pretests were used to develop a questionnaire that minimized measurement error and maximized response for the Green Technologies and Practices Survey. Development and evaluation relied on the use of mixed-methods research approaches applied within the context of an “action research“ model. This report summarizes the objectives of the pretests, describes the data collection modes that were used, and explains how Response Analysis Surveys and more traditional quantitative analyses were used to evaluate and modify procedures and questionnaire design.
