Identifying Seasonality

Abstract

This paper documents seasonality diagnostics available in the X-13ARIMA-SEATS seasonal adjustment software and illustrates their application to several real time series. It summarizes the work of the Interagency Seasonal Adjustment Team, which was chartered in October 2016 to examine seasonal adjustment practices across statistical agencies (U.S. Census Bureau, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis), and to assist all member agencies in identifying solutions that will mitigate residual seasonality in governmental macroeconomic statistics.
