CPI Geographic Revision

In January 2018, BLS will introduce a new geographic area sample for the Consumer Price Index (CPI). This sample is being revised to reflect data from the most recent Decennial Census. As part of the revision, indexes for some areas will be added, some will be discontinued, and indexes for other areas will be renamed. In addition, some areas currently published semi-annually will be published bi-monthly. Pittsburgh is among the areas being discontinued, while Baltimore and Washington will have separate indexes

For answers to frequently-asked questions about the upcoming changes, please check out our factsheet, at www.bls.gov/regions/midwest/factsheet/cpi-2018-geographic-revision-factsheet.htm.
