2026 Publication Status of Select Import and Export Price Indexes

BLS reviews coverage levels in the Import and Export Price Indexes (MXP) annually to assess publishability. A coverage level is the ratio of the monthly average of usable item prices collected relative to the number of items selected in the sample. In 2025, coverage levels declined and fell below the coverage guidelines for the 22 BEA end-use import and export price indexes listed in the table below.

Despite coverage levels, these 22 price indexes continue to ensure respondent confidentiality and are otherwise statistically robust. Similar to past practice, BLS will continue to publish these indexes because of their importance as inputs to other official statistics. Throughout the year, BLS will monitor these series for statistical robustness.
