Mid-Atlantic: Price Movements of Top Exports and Other Highlights
July 2025
The Mid-Atlantic region, composed of Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia, exported a total trade dollar value of $100.2 billion in 2024, a decrease of 0.3 percent from 2023. Export prices for chemical manufacturing, the largest export industry for the region, advanced in June. Prices for export machinery manufacturing also increased in June, while prices for computer and electronic product manufacturing declined. Export transportation equipment manufacturing prices recorded no change over the same period.
Top Six Mid-Atlantic Exports by Trade Dollar Value, 2024
- Overall exports from the Mid-Atlantic represented 4.9 percent of the U.S. total export trade dollar value in 2024.
- Mid-Atlantic chemical manufacturing exports accounted for 7.3 percent of the industry's total U.S. exports by trade dollar value in 2024.
- The top 6 export industries from the Mid-Atlantic accounted for 63.7 percent of the region's total 2024 export trade dollar value.
U.S. Export Price Indexes: Chemical Manufacturing
- Export chemical manufacturing prices increased 0.5 percent in June.
- A 1.6-percent rise in prices for basic chemical manufacturing contributed to the advance in prices for export chemical manufacturing in June.
- The price index for chemical manufacturing exports advanced 3.9 percent over the past year.
U.S. Export Price Indexes: Transportation Equipment Manufacturing
- The price index for export transportation equipment manufacturing recorded no change in June.
- Transportation equipment manufacturing export prices rose 2.8 percent for the 12 months ended June 2025.
- A 3.7-percent rise in prices for motor vehicle parts manufacturing contributed to the 12-month advance in prices for export transportation equipment manufacturing.
U.S. Export Price Indexes: Computer and Electronic Product Manufacturing
- Computer and electronic product manufacturing export prices edged down 0.1 percent in June.
- The monthly decrease in export prices for computer and electronic product manufacturing was driven by a 0.8-percent decline in prices for export communications equipment manufacturing.
- Export computer and electronic product manufacturing prices advanced 0.6 percent for the 12 months ended June 2025.
U.S. Export Price Indexes: Machinery Manufacturing
- The price index for export machinery manufacturing advanced 0.5 percent in June.
- Export machinery manufacturing prices increased 1.5 percent from June 2024 to June 2025.
- A 3.9-percent advance in prices for industrial machinery manufacturing contributed to the 12-month increase in prices for export machinery manufacturing.
